Warehouse Management Software Helps Non-Profit Track Donations and Increase Services

The Organization

Based in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, is a leading provider of senior living accommodations and social services. Diakon Kathryn’s Kloset is a division of the social ministry; they act as a conduit for corporate gift–in–kind donations by connecting multiple corporate partners with organizations serving those most in need locally, nationally and internationally. The standalone 50,000 square foot warehouse, located in Maryland, currently employs four people.

The Challenge

Diakon Kathryn’s Kloset spends much of its time tracking donations. Donations from 150–200,000 organizations were tracked manually for 15 years.

This meant the number of organizations the warehouse could serve was limited because of the amount of time it took to create accounting reports.

The Solution

Wade Brown, a representative of Diakon Kathryn’s Kloset, says “I actually discovered IntelliTrack through a family member who works with computers; he helped me research warehousing applications and found IntelliTrack’s to be the best fit.”

While other systems tried to force them to purchase features they didn’t need, IntelliTrack helped them build a package fit for their budget and requirements.

Diakon now uses IntelliTrack WMS (Warehouse Management System) to track donations and generate instant reports. They are able to easily determine what’s on hand and what is going out using bar code labels, reports and packing lists. “It’s a very good tool,” says Brown.

The Results

Before using IntelliTrack software, Diakon spent hours tracking its data. Once their operations were running more smoothly and quickly after the software install, Diakon saw immediate gains.

Previously limited to about 200,000 clients, Diakon is now able to service over half a million organizations, with 507,000 served in the first six months of 2010.
